Patrick Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Initiating Derogatory Chants Targeting Manager Chris Wilder

Patrick Bamford is now a member of the Championship side just half a year after starting derogatory taunts targeting their manager, Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, without a club since leaving Leeds, has put pen to paper on a agreement with the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. His lengthy spell with Leeds was ended by mutual consent in August.

Among the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player included starting insulting chants about Chris Wilder amid the club’s promotion party in April. Now, the one-cap England international will feature for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to rescue the team he loves out of the drop zone.

Previous History Between Bamford and the Manager

Both men had a past before Leeds won promotion to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager described Bamford as “a muppet” when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won automatic promotion while Leeds missed out in the playoffs.

The song about Wilder went viral this spring. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the next day.

Chris Wilder stated back then: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I have no problem at all with it. I'm uncertain about the words used from a fellow pro! But I valued and respected him giving me a call.

“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I spoke to Daniel too and had a half-hour chat with him and he is a great person, a class act. When I was playing we would dish it out and take it and that’s part and parcel of the game at every level, even on Sunday league. I have no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Patrick.”

Latest Playing Challenges

Bamford featured in 18 games for Leeds last season however the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
